Judicial systems all over the world are organized differently, and yet they have many features in common. The book presented addresses the entire setting of judicial institutions and proceedings, not just the personal position of judges. It contains descriptions of 19 different countries, which all use – to various extents – the analytical framework developed by the two editors and presented in the first chapter. This framework constitutes the true innovation offered by the publication, leaving behind the traditional juxtaposition of independence and accountability in favor of a multidimensional perspective including values, processes, resources and outcomes.
